DHX - Dependable Hawaiian Express

5/19/2022

Dear Valued Customer:

As you are aware, oil prices have continued to trend upward due in part to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War. This has driven higher fuel-related operating costs for Matson. As a result, Matson will increase its Fuel-Related Surcharge (FRSC) effective Sunday, June 19, 2022. The surcharge for Hawaii service will increase from 46.0% to 48.5%; for Guam/CNMI service, it will increase from 47.0% to 49.5%; and for Micronesia service, it will increase from 51.0% to 53.5%.

Matson’s investment in exhaust gas cleaning systems, or “scrubbers,” for five of their nine ships deployed in the Hawaii service has helped mitigate some costs driven by fuel prices. Matson operates these vessels primarily with lower-cost Heavy Fuel Oil while achieving emission reduction targets.

In these extraordinary times, volatility in fuel prices is likely to continue and may require additional surcharge adjustments.

We will continue to monitor Matson's fuel surcharges and adjust our fuel surcharges to you accordingly.
