The following is provided for your information:

Hawaii Interisland Rate Increase Effective August 5, 2022

We were informed by Young Brothers (YB), Hawaii’s inter island barge service, that effective August 5, 2022 their Fuel Price Adjustment increased from 5.37% to 7.59%. This FPA percentage is based upon costs and revenues for the three-month period that ended July 31, 2022.

YB raised their fuel surcharge with a one day’s notice. In keeping with our policies, we are herein giving our Customers 30 days’ notice that our FCL (Full Container Load) interisland rates will be changing with sailings on or after September 5, 2022. Anything moving on a quoted basis will be quoted using the latest fuel surcharge reflected in our carriage costs.

Hilo Delivery Rate Increase Effective September 15, 2022

As a result of continued fuel and operational cost increases, our island delivery rates for Hilo and surrounding areas will be increasing by 5% effective for shipments sailing on and after September 15.

Fuel Related Surcharge Increase – Hawaii / Guam / Micronesia

As advised in our last News Update dated July 15, 2022, Matson increased its Fuel-Related Surcharge (FRSC) effective Sunday, July 31, 2022. The surcharge for Hawaii service increased from 48.5% to 54%; for Guam/CNMI service, it increased from 49.5% to 55%; and for Micronesia service, it increased from 53.5% to 59%.

Span Alaska Acquires Alaskan Business of DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express, Inc.

As announced in our Breaking Alert dated June 28, 2022, DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express, Inc., an affiliate of Dependable Supply Chain Services, agreed to sell its Alaska business to Span Alaska, a subsidiary of Matson Logistics, Inc. DHX will continue to provide door-to-door service in Alaska with Span Alaska as our primary service provider. Our agreement with Span Alaska will provide you with seamless service at the same levels of consistency you have come to expect of us. We will continue to work closely with our customers in providing timely communication and transparency. DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express and Span Alaska are collaborating on the transition of service that went into effect July 11, 2022, all shipments will be diverted to Span Alaska’s terminal in Auburn, Washington.

Please remember that certain offices are across the International Dateline. The dates above are their dates, not the actual U.S. date.

DHX – Dependable Hawaiian Express Labor Day Holiday Cut Offs

  • Out of Southern California – The cutoff for Hawaii non-hazardous freight to sail Wednesday, September 7 will be Tuesday, September 6 by 5:00 pm PST. We will not be sailing hazardous freight for Hawaii on Wednesday, September 7. The hazardous freight received on Friday, September 2 by 5:00 pm PST will sail Saturday, September 10. The cutoff for Guam non-hazardous freight will be Friday, September 2 and the cutoff for Guam hazardous freight will be Thursday, September 1 by 5:00 pm PST for sail Wednesday, September 7.

  • Out of Northern California – The cutoff for Hawaii non-hazardous will be Friday, September 2 by noon PST and hazardous freight will be Thursday, September 1 by noon PST. The cutoff for Guam non-hazardous will be Wednesday, August 31 by noon PST and hazardous freight will be Tuesday, August 30 by noon for the sail Tuesday, September 76.

  • Out of Seattle and Portland – There will be no disruption to our regular cutoff schedule.


Labor Day Holiday Port Schedule and Gate Hours

Matson Navigation Company (“Matson”) has announced Labor Day is a no-work holiday for select U.S. ports on the West Coast, Hawaii, and Guam.All Matson terminals will be closed on the U.S. Mainland and in Hawaii and Guam on Monday, September 5, 2022.

All cut-offs for West Coast departures remain unchanged.

Warehousing and Storage

We have palletized goods storage capabilities in Honolulu, Maui, Kona, and Guam. Our customers are able to monitor inventory levels, ship an order with same day/next day delivery, and use our facilities as a potential “back of the store.” You can increase your retail selling space or free up your workspace in your existing facility and have supplies arrive as you need them.
