DHX - Breaking Alert

7/1/2022

Dear Valued Customer:

Oil prices continue to trend upward due to the global supply and demand pressure on oil markets. This has driven higher fuel-related operating costs for Matson. As a result, Matson will increase its Fuel-Related Surcharge (FRSC) effective Sunday, July 31, 2022. The surcharge for Hawaii service will increase from 48.5% to 54%; for Guam/CNMI service, it will increase from 49.5% to 55%; and for Micronesia service, it will increase from 53.5% to 59%.

We understand and are concerned about the significant impact fuel prices are having on our customers. Matson’s investment in exhaust gas cleaning systems, or “scrubbers,” for five of their nine ships deployed in the Hawaii service has helped mitigate some costs driven by fuel prices. Matson operates these vessels primarily with lower-cost Heavy Fuel Oil while achieving emission reduction targets.

Volatility in fuel prices is likely to continue and may require additional surcharge adjustments.

We will continue to monitor Matson's fuel surcharges and adjust our fuel surcharges to you accordingly.
