Hawaii Service Rates for 2022

As announced in our Breaking Alert that went out November 23rd, 2021, Matson Navigation Company (“Matson”) announced that to offset rising costs of operation and continuing investment in Hawaii service improvements, Matson’s rates for their Hawaii service will increase by $250 per westbound container and $125 per eastbound container, effective January 2nd, 2022. Intermodal rates for Hawaii cargo service will increase by $350 per westbound container and $175 per eastbound container.

As a result, our Hawaii rates will increase by like amounts for full container loads. For less-than-container load (LCL) cargo, our Customer rates will be raised based on various factors, including the commodity, density, and current costs. These changes will take effect with shipments sailing on or after January 2nd, 2022. Please contact your Salesperson to discuss any adjustments to your rate levels.

As you may already know, the State of Hawaii increases its Wharfage and Facility Security fees in July of each year. Though the amount of the increase is unknown, we anticipate it to be around 3% of the current Hawaii Wharfage and Facility Security charges.

Additionally, due to changing costs in our Hawaii operations, we will be increasing some of our Hawaii delivery pricing and local trucking rates. Our delivery agents in Hilo and Kauai will also increase their delivery rates, and these will take effect on January 2nd, 2022.

Please see the below table for the associated increases by Island:

  Terminal         Increase

Oahu              0% on Delivery, 10% on Will Call charges, local trucking rates and any accessorial
                         charges

Maui              0% on Delivery, 5% on Will Call charges, local trucking rates and any accessorial charges

  Kona              5% on all services

KFS/Kauai      6% on LCL Delivery charges and accessorial charges and 2% on FCL spot rates

Hitco/Hilo      2% on average Delivery increase – amount varies dependent upon the Zone and shipment
                       size

During 2021 we absorbed numerous fuel surcharge adjustments from Young Brothers pertaining to our InterIsland Consolidation Service. Accordingly, on January 2nd, 2022 our InterIsland rates will increase 5% to help offset the increased InterIsland costs of carriage.

Coronavirus

There is so much news available, we felt it was really not necessary to comment other than to state that from the U.S. Mainland there have been no delays impacting Hawaii or Guam. Shipments exporting from Asia may still experience delays as the ocean carriers cancel sailings and air freight capacity is still somewhat limited.

At DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express we have an Emergency Response Plan in place to ensure your shipments and our services will continue in spite of the virus. This plan includes our Associates and Management working from home, as well as providing us all with as safe a workplace as we can under the circumstances. Our goal is to continue to serve you with the excellent service to which you are accustomed. We are working both hard and smart to be part of your solution during these difficult times!

Warehousing and Storage

We have palletized goods storage capabilities in Honolulu, Maui, Kona and Guam. Our customers are able to monitor inventory levels, ship an order with same day/next day delivery, and use our facilities as a potential “back of the store”. You can increase your retail selling space or free up your workspace in your existing facility and have supplies arrive as you need them. For further information, please contact Eli Forkner at 800-488-4888 extension 1740.
