Hawaii Wharfage and Security Charge Increase

As advised in our Breaking Alert dated May 28, 2021, under terms of the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Harbors Division’s financing plan for its Harbors Modernization Program, the State has been phasing in wharfage fee and port security fee increases on July 1 over the last several years. These fees support important development work under the Harbors Modernization Program: expanding harbor capacity, accommodating advancements in containerized cargo handling, alleviating congestion and shortage of available operational space, and developing more adaptable and resilient port facilities.

We were informed by Matson Navigation Company (“Matson”), that the State has announced increases of 3% to both wharfage and port security fees, effective July 1, 2021. In anticipation of these increases, Matson will increase its Hawaii Wharfage and Port Security charges by the same amounts on July 1, 2021.

The newly adjusted amounts are as follows:

DHX – Dependable Hawaiian Express will pass through these increased State fees for shipments sailing on and after Thursday, July 1, 2021. For full container loads, costs will be passed through at cost. For less than container loads (LCL) wharfage fees will increase $.01 for all islands. Our current Facilities Security Charge will not change.

Holiday Schedules

The offices listed below will be closed for their holidays as follows:

Hawaii and Guam Service 4^th of July Cutoff Schedules

Our US mainland offices will be closed Monday, July 5^th in observance of the 4^th of July holiday.

• Out of Southern California, the cutoff for hazardous freight to Guam will be 5:00 pm PST Thursday, July 1 and for non-hazardous freight 5:00 pm PST Friday, July 2 for the Wednesday, July 7 sail.
  The cutoff for non-hazardous freight to Hawaii will be 5:00 pm PST Tuesday, July 6 for the Wednesday, July 7 sail. There will be no hazardous cargo to Hawaii for the Wednesday, July 7 sail. Hazardous freight received Friday, July 2 – Tuesday, July 6 will be rolled to the Saturday, July 10 sail.
  
  
• Out of Northern California, the cutoff for hazardous and non-hazardous freight to Guam and Hawaii will be 12 noon PST Thursday, July 1 for the Tuesday, July 6 sail.
  
  
• Out of the Pacific Northwest, there will be no disruption to our regular cutoff schedule.
  
  
• We are estimating island deliveries to be pushed back by 24 hours. Our island trucking operations will do everything in their power to expedite the handling of your shipments and to minimize the delay as much as possible.

We have been advised by Matson Navigation Company (“Matson”) their Hawaii and Guam service port facilities will observe the 4^th of July holiday on Monday, July 5, with hours of operation as follows: 

All vessels will sail per our regular schedule, with one exception. In Oakland, the R.J. Pfeiffer 476W will depart on Tuesday, July 6 at 1700. Please note, Matson’s Oakland terminal will have a Sunday, July 4 gate 0800 – 1700 to accommodate receipts. All West Coast Matson terminals are closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of an ILWU holiday.

We Have Moved Our Domestic Ocean Consolidation Receiving Services out of La Mirada

DHX – Dependable Hawaiian Express, formerly Hawaiian Express Service, relocated our 16800 Trojan Way, La Mirada, CA domestic ocean consolidation receiving services to our 19201 S. Susana Road Rancho Dominguez, CA facility Monday, April 19, 2021. Our La Mirada facility does provide warehousing needs including cross dock and pick and pull services. Island Warehousing and Storage

We have palletized goods storage capabilities in Honolulu, Maui, Kona and Guam. Our customers are able to monitor inventory levels, ship an order with same day/next day delivery, and use our facilities as a potential “back of the store”. You can increase your retail selling space or free up your workspace in your existing facility and have supplies arrive as you need them. Refrigerated Service

DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express has offered full container load refrigerated service to Hawaii in the past. With the acquisition of Hawaiian Express Services our refrigerated services have expanded. We are now offering temperature-controlled services to Hawaii and Alaska for full container loads (FCL) as well as less than container loads (LCL) out of our Hayward, CA location for Hawaii and our Kent, WA location for Alaska. Freeze, Chill and Keep from Freezing (KFF) experience is now offered by DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express to serve your needs.

Air Freight Service

While still not to the pre-pandemic levels, air carriers are carefully returning the number and frequency of scheduled flights, domestically, and internationally. Speaking of air rates for US domestic and air exports from the US they are also not completely back to the lower pre-Covid 19 levels that existed. There are still positive signs for the air cargo industry and shippers that count on the speed and economy of airfreight to meet deadlines and move products, equipment, parts, and all essential goods to their final destination. Our airfreight team monitors the market daily and has a pulse on the polymorphic nature of the 'flying' industry. DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express – Website Update

If you do not already have a login and password to access your account online please contact your current salesperson and ask to be set up. By accessing your account online, you will be able to track your shipments, run reports, view invoices and paperwork related to your shipments such as bills of lading and proof of deliveries. If you are currently using our website to track your shipments, we now have a new "wildcard" feature that expands the search field to include multiple reference and purchase order numbers.
