Los Angeles/Long Beach Port Congestion Update
Although there has been a considerable decline in import volumes since February, the improvement of congestion at the LA/LB ports has been minimal. The high volume of import containers into the USA from last autumn until January of this year has caused an imbalance between import and export flow. As a result, the ports have been flooded with more empties than they're equipped to handle. Ocean carriers are still employing sailings to reposition empties only (blank sailings) to try to reduce the congestion. Additionally, with the decrease in seasonal import volumes, many LA/LB terminals are closing either the day or night shifts (and sometimes both) in order to reduce costs. Lastly, the terminals are trying to manage chassis dislocations in order to ease congestion. Their strategy has been to enforce dual transactions only, without the option for single transactions, in order to control chassis flow. These actions have the direct impact of affecting trucker's ability to return empties expediently. In summary, the actions taken by the port terminals have not helped clear up congestion issues at this time, and may have delayed resolving congestion related issues.
Company Happenings
We would like to share some recent news from our DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express blogs, with the below being a “cut and paste” effort from our DHX.com website, and Facebook page(s):
We encourage you to visit our blog at www.dhx.com to see our latest updates, progress, helpful hints, and shipping insights. Once there you can access links to our Facebook pages, with some of more noteworthy items being:
New Honolulu Warehouse - We’re building a new warehouse and distribution center in the heart of the industrial district in Honolulu. Visit our page to view the progress of the building project.
Beard for Buck$ - A campaign to help raise money for charity, that will help the homeless in Hawaii. So far with our participating partnerships, we have earmarked over $25,000 for charity, with 4 more months until the completion of our new warehouse. You can see monthly updates regarding the current length of the beard.
The 2 charities listed below, will be receiving 100% of all donations:
· Kahauiki Village http://www.kahauiki.org/
· The Salvation Army-Hawaiian and Pacific Islands https://fundraise.salvationarmyhawaii.org/…/beard-f…/c184542
We hope that you join us in this fun, yet charitable cause. #beardforbucks #honolulu #hawaii
Just so you know, for a single donation of $10,000, Brad Dechter, the President of DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express, and DGX (Dependable Global Express) is willing to dye his beard purple, one of the official colors of Dependable Supply Chain Services, for a month!
For $25,000 he will dye the beard and his hair too, for a month! It’s all for a great cause, folks!
If you are thinking of donating to a worthy cause, this is it! We appreciate any donation you can make to help the homeless in Honolulu.
Should you have additional questions, please contact your local DGX office or representative, or call us at 888-488-4888 or at 310-669-8888.
Thank you for your business - we appreciate it!
