Breaking Alert
8/24/2018
Dear Valued Customer:
The following is an update regarding the current
impact of Hurricane Lane.
Hurricane Lane has been downgraded to a Category 2
storm. The storm is still producing heavy torrential rain, surging floodwaters
and road clogging landslides.
The island of Maui is now experiencing a brush fire
in Lahaina, on the western side of the island. The Fire was spreading rapidly, and there are
numerous road closures and evacuations.
There has been property destroyed, and firefighting efforts have been
negatively impacted by winds.
Hawaii Terminal Updates:
- Honolulu- The terminal will be
closed Friday, August 24, 2018. We will be setting up a crew for Sunday,
if manpower is available, to work the pending Mahimahi 403 sailing.
- Hilo/Kona- The hurricane warning
for the Big Island was removed this morning and Matson did sail a barge to
the big island but the ports are still closed awaiting the “all clear”
signal. Once the “all clear” signal is given and the port reopens, we will
go down and start picking up the containers. We do have a skeleton crew in
the office today with drivers on call, but all other personnel will remain
at home.
- Kauai- The terminal will be closed Friday,
August 24, 2018.
- Maui- The terminal will be closed Friday,
August 24, 2018.
Forecasts predict that by
Monday morning, the storm should pass. On Monday morning we will update you
with status regarding all terminals, as well as our Ocean and Air services.
