Dear Valued Customer:
Yesterday we sent out a News Flash regarding the upcoming increases in Hawaii's wharfages. To expand on what we've previously sent you, we'd like to add the following information.
Hawaii's Dept of Transportation-Harbors Division has announced they will be implementing two wharfage increases in 2010. The first "pass through" increase will become effective on March 14, 2010 with an ensuing increase on July 1, 2010. Increases will vary by island and equipment. As an example, a 40' container will increase by 28% from $77.20 to $99.00 with the first increase (March 14) and an additional 20% ($19.80) to $118.80 on July 1.
The combined changes represent an overall increase of approximately 54 percent in 2010. The first increase represents $.02 difference in our wharfage charges per cubic foot and our wharfage charge changes will be effective with sailings on or after March 14, 2010. The second increase represents an additional $.02 per cubic foot and will become effective with sailings on or after July 1, 2010. Additionally, the Harbors Division announced their scheduled increases for the next three years and thereafter. Accordingly, you will see the following increases after 2010:
